Mountain bike enthusiasts have been using RapidFire Plus since 1985. RapidFire Plus is still the winning choice for a wide range of styles, from XC racing to freeriding. RapidFire Plus shifters are suitable for quick shifting and offer the possibility of downshifting three gears with a single lever operation. The new RapidFire Plus shifters from the Shimano Deore to XTR series feature the 2Way-Release function, which allows shifting by pulling the control with the index finger or pushing it with the thumb.

2Way-Release

The release lever of RapidFire Plus shifters is generally called a "trigger" because it works like a gun trigger, which is pulled towards the grip. The release lever of RapidFire Plus shifters from Shimano Alivio to XTR can be operated in this same way but also allows for a release shift by pushing with the thumb.
